“I always wanted to be an artist, whatever that was, like other chicks want to be stewardesses. I read. I painted. I thought.” — Janis Joplin
The 1960’s & 1970’s
1970’s Art & Fashion: All Eyes on You / Niki de Saint Phalle
I’m crazy about this necklace made by artist Niki de Saint Phalle in the early 70’s (featured here in Vogue Italia). It was made of 18k gold and came with matching earrings.
1970’s Home: Nine Botanical Boho Rooms to Inspire You
House plants were a huge trend in the 1970’s, especially large ones. Looking at these photos you can see why. The idea of turning your home into a bohemian jungle is definately appealing! Here are 9 photos of gorgeous homes with a whole lotta house plants.
1960’s Fashion: Icon Francoise Hardy
“This is my favorite record album” Moonrise Kingdom, Wes Anderson, 2012
I can’t blame you, Suzy. Francoise Hardy’s music is great. I would best describe it as psychedelic chanteuse. But it’s more than that. And not only was her voice beautiful, she was also a major style icon. She was great looking, had awesome hair, and was basically the epitome of a chic french woman. She’s definately worth looking up to, big time.
Ten fantastic photos of Francoise Hardy in the 1960’s
1970’s Beauty: Spring Sparkle
These glittery, multicolor eye makeup looks from the 1970’s are so fun!
1960’s & 1970’s Art: John Alcorn
Reclining Nude, 1968
Artist, John Alcorn (1935-1992), did some pretty groovy folk-style work (mostly screen printed illustrations) in the 60’s & 70’s.
Alcorn’s Illustrative Work:
1960’s Fashion: Black and White Mod
1960’s Fashion: Designer Andre Courreges
A French Designer known for helmets, goggles, his iconic miniskirts (it’s debated whether he or Mary Quant first made the miniskirt), and “second skin” tights. Andre Courreges’ ‘Space Age’ collection launched in 1964. He was the first to introduce this look and was the most copied designer of the era. Top photograph taken by Brian Griffin (part of Griffin’s project “Face to Face”, 2010).
